The most popular charity sale event in the Rochester region ─ The Saint’s Place Super Sale ─ is back in 2024 with a new site that offers plenty of parking.
The Annual Super Sale Fundraiser will be held Aug. 7-10, 2024, in the large gym of the Parish Center at St. John of Rochester Church, 8 Wickford Way, Fairport, right off Route 31.
For many years, St. John’s has been a strong partner with Saint’s Place, which has its clothing closet located at Saint John’s. Previously, the sale was held on the campus of St. Louis Church in Pittsford, in a two-story classroom building and with limited parking onsite.
“We’re extremely excited to hold the sale at St. John of Rochester,” said Michele Quinn, Saint’s Place Executive Director. “This change will have a lot of advantages for shoppers. All the sale items will be located on one floor in the air-conditioned gym in the Parish Center. We’ll also have plenty of parking spots in the large lot on the campus.”
The success of the Super Sale is vital to providing funds for helping legal refugees resettle in our community. Saint’s Place provides new beds and mattresses, household furnishings, and clothing for Rochester’s four seasons, including warm winter clothing and boots.
Saint’s Place helped nearly 1630 newly arrived refugees this fiscal year ─ the most ever ─ from July 2023 through June 2024, and it expects that trend to continue, Quinn said. “This is a 33 percent increase from last year. Our clients come from 20 different countries. Most arrived from Ukraine, followed by the Congo, Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Iraq and Burma. Children have accounted for over half of the new arrivals. We set up over 285 homes.”
As in previous years, Super Sale shoppers will have access to great deals on purses, jewelry, dishes, glassware, small kitchen appliances, furniture, linens, electronics, books, toys, artwork, sporting goods, bikes, clothing and collectible items, all donated by the Rochester community.
“During the COVID pandemic, when we needed to safely distance from each other, we ran a smaller version of our Super Sale in the gym at St. John of Rochester,” Quinn stated. “That went extremely well, and so we are confident that moving the 2024 sale there will be a big success. We’ll have the same great quality and quantity of items. Now more than ever, it’s important that we meet our goal of raising $150,000 as we expect the influx of refugees to continue well into 2025. Prices continue to increase for necessary items such as new beds and bedding and the gasoline that we use to operate our trucks.”
The Super Sale will take place at the St. John of Rochester Parish Center, 8 Wickford Way, Fairport.
