Making a House a Home

Household Setups

When new refugees arrive in the Rochester area, Catholic Charities and Community Services assigns them a caseworker and finds them an apartment to rent.  Once the apartment is secured, CCFCS contacts Saint's Place and we help turn that small apartment into a home.

Each new refugee receives a new mattress and box-spring, pillows and blankets.  They also receive donated sheets, mattress pads, comforters, throw pillows and dressers.

In the living room we provide donated couches, armchairs, coffee tables, end tables, lamps and artwork for the walls.

In the kitchen, we fill the cupboards donated with dishes, silverware, pots and pans, measuring cups and spoons, knives, coffee makers etc.

In the bathroom, each refugee receives two sets of towels, bath rugs, shower curtains and toiletries.

Refugees arrive in the United States with very few personal belongings.  Most have spent years in refugee camps.  It is our desire to help them establish a home here in Rochester where they feel safe and secure and most of all welcomed.

We could not do what we do without generous donations of used furniture and household goods from the Rochester Community.  Please visit our donate page to find out how YOU can help!
