Catholic Charities Family and Community Services is the agency appointed by the U.S. government to receive any legal refugees in the Rochester, New York area. Prior to their arrival, refugees are assigned a caseworker who works to secure an apartment for them and notifies Saint’s Place of their pending arrival.
Saint Louis Church provides office space for our Ministry, and written support in church bulletins. In December, St. Louis Church houses the Angel Trees for Saint's Place.
St. John of Rochester Church
provides seven classrooms of free donated space to house our Clothing Closet. A large team of volunteers receives, cleans and sorts donated clothing and household goods. St. John's is the site of our annual Super Sale fundraiser in August. The parish is also a generous monetary supporter of our Educational Initiative.
Saint's Place began offering tutoring at the Cathedral in June 2022. Most of the attendees are Burmese families who are parishioners. The adults are studying to pass the GED and citizenship exams.
We are grateful to St. Marianne Cope Parish for hosting our tutors and refugees once a week on Mondays.
Goodwill is a strategic partner of Saint's Place. We receive a huge amount of donations from the public, and some of them we just cannot use. Goodwill kindly picks up at no cost from our locations every week, as well as donating gift cards for use in their stores to purchase items we need for refugee families.
